Clinic Manager position

Reports To: Executive Director
Supervises: Clinic Supervisors and Animal Care Staff/Volunteers
Status: Full-time
Location: Centre Wildlife Care (CWC)

Salary Range - $35 to $50k based on experience.

Position Summary

Centre Wildlife Care is a wildlife rehabilitation facility in Central PA that is licensed to rehabilitate all native species of wildlife including rabies vectors and endangered species. CWC admits over 2000 animals per year, with half arriving in May and June in the form of orphaned babies.

The Clinic Manager is the operational leader of the wildlife clinic and is accountable for ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and humane wildlife rehabilitation services. This position translates organizational policies and strategic direction into consistent daily execution.

The Clinic Manager oversees all staff and is responsible for maintaining clinical standards, operational workflow, regulatory compliance, and professional conduct across all clinic functions. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring sound judgment, decisive action, and the ability to manage people in a fast-paced, emotionally demanding environment.

This role publicly represents the organization and must consistently show professionalism, discretion, and support for organizational values.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Current Pennsylvania Wildlife Rehabilitation License or be actively working toward securing licensure. 
• Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle. 
• Have, or be willing to receive the rabies vaccine, and regular titers and boosters.
• Demonstrated experience in wildlife rehabilitation and animal care.
• Strong supervisory, organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress or emergency situations.
• Excellent communication skills with staff, volunteers, and the public.
• Commitment to CWC’s mission, values, and regulatory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Oversight & Animal Care

· Review all clinic animal care sheets each shift to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with CWC standards. 

· Observe animal progress and needs daily and adjust:

     o Food requirements

     o Medications and treatments

     o Housing and location (incubators, tubs, crates, flights, etc.) 

· Identify animals requiring diagnostic testing and oversee proper sample collection.

· Evaluate readiness for release in coordination with the Executive Director.

· Ensure education animals’ care sheets are reviewed and updated appropriately.

· Ensure no animal is released, transferred, or disposed of without proper authorization.

· Provide direct, hands-on animal care as needed to maintain operational continuity.

· Provide on-call emergency services as needed and be willing to work a varied schedule.

· Consistently communicate with the volunteers and staff to increase education and understanding of proper procedures.

Supervision & Leadership

Directly supervise clinic supervisors, providing structured guidance, accountability, and performance feedback.

• Set clear expectations and address performance concerns promptly and  professionally.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of interns and volunteers.
• Serve as acting shift supervisor when scheduled or needed.
• Ensure supervisors are properly handling:
  • Animal intakes
  • Public interactions
  • Volunteer guidance
  • Emergency situations 
• Foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, safety, and compassion.

Intake & Public Interaction Oversight

• Ensure intake procedures follow CWC protocols, including:
  • Proper handling of animals
  • Accurate completion of intake forms
  • Appropriate public communication 
• Ensure the public is treated courteously, professionally, and      consistently, and that sensitive information is not shared without      authorization.
• Support supervisors in managing difficult or emotional public      interactions.

Communication & Coordination

• Monitor GroupMe and email communications and provide animal care      recommendations regarding:
  • Medications
  • Feeding
  • Treatments
  • Animal placement 
• Provide timely clinical guidance to supervisors and staff.
• Assist in answering CWC phones and assist callers with guidance, referrals, or transport decisions when appropriate.
• Serve as a primary liaison between clinic operations and the Executive Director.

Facilities, Supplies & Documentation

• Manage clinic supplies and inventory.
• Oversee clinic care sheets, ensuring they are prepared, current, and      accessible.
• Monitor clinic facilities and identify maintenance or safety needs. 
• Ensure clinic operations comply with state and federal wildlife      rehabilitation regulations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• This position requires the ability to sit, stand, crouch, kneel, walk up and downhill outdoors, access enclosures, etc.
• Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to fifty pounds.
• The position requires both indoor and outdoor activities year-round.
• Manual dexterity.
• Be able and willing to consistently wear gloves and masks as protocols or health regulations require.
• Prepare for and participate in off-site educational programs as needed.
• Support and participate in fundraising activities and events.
• Be willing to assist in miscellaneous tasks to support the mission such as shopping, picking up supplies, cleaning, maintenance, construction and painting etc..
